What you may not realize is that sometimes it is possible to have too much information present. The good news is that if your website is cluttered, cleaning things up and organizing it better can often improve your conversion rates. That means you’ll likely see improvement to your bottom line!

How to Get Your Website Decluttered

There are several steps you can take to improve the view and function of your website to achieve this goal. It is important for you to use these tools based on how they apply to your unique situation – remember that your website is unique and that what you need to do is different from the next person. That is why it is often recommended that you work with a professional to handle this cleanup process. To get started, though, take these steps.

  1. First, figure out what you want your customer to do. Do you want them to sign up, buy, or do something else? It is a good idea to focus on this as a first step. Ultimately, everything on your page needs to direct customers to this step. Is it doing that? Then it may not be a good idea to present on your first page.
  2. Get your links in line. The next step to take is to create a link strategy. This will allow you to encourage navigation through your site. When a visitor arrives at the site, they know what steps to take specifically to move from step one to step two, and so on until they achieve the goal you have.
  3. Next, consider the ads on your site. Do you have too many present? This is one of the biggest culprits of a cluttered website. Google and other search engines do not penalize you for ads. However, you should not have too many on the site. There is no specific rule as to home many ads are too many, though. Choose a clean design that minimizes the number of ads easily seen.
  4. Don’t overload the graphics. It is a good idea to keep graphics to a minimum especially if they slow down the operation of your site.
  5. Finally, you’ll want to streamline content on the site to make it easy to read. Use bullets, headlines, and bolded words to improve the readability of the content on the site.

By decluttering your website, you’ll educate your buyers better. You’ll ensure your visitors can interact with your site and get to the buying or investment point. Most importantly, your leads turn into conversions more often.
